Sometime voices that, if I then had waked after a long sleep, will make me sleep again: and then in dreaming, the clouds methought would open, and show riches ready to drop upon me; that, when I waked, I cried to dream again.

William Shakespeare, The Tempest

This year at Creative Summer Club we will be thinking about sleep and dreaming.

The course will cultivate personal creative expression through art, music and writing, and is accessible to children of all abilities. Its small size (ten children maximum) means that each child will receive personal attention during their creative process. We will explore representations of sleeping and dreaming through poetry, prose, religious scripture, myth, art and music. Students will produce a range of mixed media responses to the following questions:

Where do we go when we sleep?

What is it like in your dreams?

How have other artists and writers represented sleep and dreaming?
